Ethiopia celebrated a one-two in the women's individual time trial cycling event at the African Youth Games in Algiers.

Helen Fisha was the fastest rider on the nearly 14 kilometre course in Algeria's capital city.

She completed the course in a time of 19min 57.71sec, with her team-mate Zayd Haftu winning silver in 21:43.99.

The podium was completed by Algeria’s Nour-Yassmine Bouzenzen, who finished in 21:59.27.

Egypt’s Youssef Abouelhassan was crowned winner of the men’s race in a time of 30:22.20.

He finished in front of Algeria’s Aïssa Lebsir and Ethiopia’s Kbrab Teklehayma Tesfay, who finished in 31:09.31 and 31:16.44 respectively.

The African Youth Games targets the 14 to 18 age group and is planned to contribute to the development of African sport and to the growth of Olympic values.

The Games are also expected to feature an education and cultural programmes seeking to promote the arts and culture of the host country and Africa as a whole.

Organisers have sought to achieve this by launching a mobile game, which competitors can play on smartphones.

Called JAJ Quest, athletes will be able to scan special codes which have been hidden around Algiers.

Once scanned questions will be shown, with correct answers allowing athletes to score points for their country.

The best teams will be rewarded with prizes each day, with questions updated on a daily basis.
