Colombia's Daniel Restrepo Garcia won boys' three metre springboard gold at the World Junior Diving Championships at the Liko Sports Centre in Kyiv.

The South American triumphed in the A-class event for divers between 16 and 18 years old.

He scored 583.35 points to come home in front of two divers from traditional powerhouse China.

Luxian Wu won the silver medal, scoring 582.50.

The bronze went to Junjie Lian who ended on a tally of 570.40.

Elsewhere, the girls' 1m springboard event was also decided in the B class - for divers aged between 14 and 15.

Gold went to China as Shiyun Lai ended on 372.75.

Hailey Hernandez of the United States won silver on 347.45, someway adrift of the winner.

Bronze was won by Elizaveta Kanso of Russia on 343.45.

Action is due to continue in Kyiv tomorrow.

A total of 42 different nations are set to be represented at the competition, where 17 different titles are up for grabs.
