Russia's six-time Olympic short track speed skating gold medallist Viktor Ahn will make a decision by November about whether or not to continue his career in the sport. 

The 32-year-old had originally announced that he would make a decision about his future career in June but now has now delayed that, revealed Alexei Kravtsov, President of the Russian Speed Skating Union. 

"This issue has been put on hold until November," Kravtsov told Russia's official state news agency TASS. 

"Viktor continues practicing."

Ahn was born in South Korea and originally competed for his home country.

He won four Olympic medals at Turin 2006, including three gold.

But Ahn missed Vancouver 2010 after failing to make South Korea's team following an injury. 

In 2011 he switched nationalities to Russia in time for Sochi 2014 where he won another three gold medals and a bronze.

Ahn controversially missed the opportunity of competing at Pyeongchang 2018 when the Russian Olympic Committee were banned from competing because of the allegations of state-supported doping in the country.

He had hoped to compete as an Olympic Athlete from Russia under a neutral flag but was not cleared by the International Olympic Committee, although he has never been linked publicly with doping. 

Ahn, who has also been crowned overall world champion six times, has been guaranteed a spot on Russia's coaching team if he does decide to retire, Kravtsov said.
