More than 200 people attended a gender equality event hosted by the Argentine Olympic Committee (COA).

The gathering in Posadas was the first of its kind organised by the governing body.

Discussions were titled "Road to Gender Equality within the Olympic Movement".

The COA arranged the event in partnership with the Ministry of Sport in Misiones Province.

Most of those to attend were women with representatives from the Paraguayan Olympic Committee among the number.

COA vice-president Alicia Masoni de Morea led the discussions alongside the Province's Minister for Sport, Rafael Morgenstern.

Topics covered included the history and development of women's participation in the Olympic Movement and the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Gender Equality Review Project.

The role of women in sports organisations and strategies to improve gender representation in sport were also covered.

It comes with the IOC in the middle of a significant push for greater gender equality.

Last month in Lausanne, the IOC announced four new mixed team events for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics as well as the women's monobob.

It was said after the announcement that the changes would give Beijing 2022 the highest overall gender balance at a Winter Olympics.

Last week, the IOC announced its new Commission membership lists which marked a "historic high" of positions held by women.

In total, 42.7 per cent of roles are now in women's hands, which marks a 16.8 per cent increase on 2017 levels and a 98 per cent rise since 2013.

Argentina is gearing up to stage this year's Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in October.
