Liesette Bruinsma of The Netherlands set her second world record at the European Para Swimming Championships in Dublin as she won the women’s 200 metres individual medley SM11 event today.

The Paralympic gold medallist clocked 2min 46.58sec, taking 0.33sec off the previous mark set by Britain’s Mary Fisher in 2012.

On Wednesday (August 15), Bruinsma shattered the world record for the women's 400m freestyle S11 event by touching in 5:04.74 to take more than six seconds off the eight-year-old world mark of 5:10.77 set by Germany's Daniela Schulte.

Bruinsma’s was the second of three world records to be set on day five of the event at the National Aquatics Centre in Ireland’s capital.

The second final of the evening, the women’s 100m backstroke S13 event, was won by Italy’s Carlotta Gilli in 1:05.76, breaking the mark of 1:06.85 set in 2016 by Russia's Anna Krivshina.

A third world record was set in the concluding mixed 4x100m freestyle relay 49pts final, which was won by Ukraine in 3:54.70, smashing the mark of 4:04.38 set in May by the United States.

That meant Ukraine, who had won six golds on the previous night, topped the daily medal table again with five wins, one ahead of The Netherlands and Italy.

The evening also featured a European record, set by Germany’s Denise Grahl in winning the women’s 50m freestyle S7 final in 32.83.

Britain's Maisie Summers-Newton, who has already set two world records in these Championships, had to settle for bronze in the women's 400m freestyle S6 final behind Ukraine's winner Yelysaveta Mereshko and team-mate Ellie Smmonds, the multiple Paralympic champion.

There was gold on the night for Britain, however, as Alice Tai won the women's 100m freestyle S8 final in 1:05.53.
