Armenia's Henrik Sargsyan moved through to the heavyweight 91 kilograms final with a 5-0 verdict over Moldova's Andrey Zatusevchii on the first day of semi-final action at the World University Boxing Championships in Russia.

There he will meet Hungary's Adam Hamori, who won his semi-final against Poland's Michal Soczynski 4-1 in this International University Sports Federation event at the Oirat-Arena in the Republic of Kalmykia city of Elista.

Home boxer Vadim Tukov reached the final of the middleweight 75kg class with a 5-0 win over Lithuania's Vitautas Balsys.

The men's bantamweight 56kg final will see Japan and Armenia in opposition after Kitauro Ryouma defeated Chinese Taipei's Chen Po-Yi when the referee stopped the contest in the third round, and then Zhorzhik Marutyan narrowly defeated home boxer Damir Khikmatulin 3-2.

Japan have another finalist in Yudai Shigeoka, who won his light flyweight 46-49kg semi-final over Chinese Taipei's Lin Hon-Da on a second round knock-out.

Shigeoka now meets Russia's Edmond Khudoyan, who beat Afghanistan's Mohammed Omari after the referee stopped the contest in round one.

In women's bouts, Russia's Anna Afinogenova beat Poland's Hanna Solecka 5-0 to reach the final of the middleweight 69-75kg category, where she will meet Chinese Taipei's Chen Nien-Chin, who won 5-0 over Hungary's Petra Szatmari.

The women's flyweight 48-51kg class final will be between home boxer Gelyusa Galieva, a 5-0 winner over Chinese Taipei's Chin Chian-Huei, and France's Wassila Lkhadini, who had a 4-1 win over Anush Grigoryan of Armenia.
