The Junior Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Championships in Cardrona in New Zealand closed with a Russian clean sweep of the podium in the men’s snowboard parallel slalom as athletes from the national also took silver and bronze in the women's event. 

Dmitry Loginov became a double world champion as he added gold in the parallel slalom to the giant parallel slalom title he claimed yesterday.

Team-mates Ilia Vitugov and Iaroslav Stepanko took silver and bronze respectively.

In the women’s event, Austria’s Daniela Ulbing added the junior title to the senior crown she earned in Spain last year.

Russia’s Anastasia Kurochkina and Elena Boltaeva came second and third.

Boltaeva took home her first Junior World Championships medal after she finished fourth in yesterday’s giant parallel slalom.

The Big Air World Cup is also taking place in resort in New Zealand.

Yesterday saw the first heats of the men’s freeski event get underway with Canada’s Noah Morrison qualifying top.

Heat two was postponed until today due to high winds yesterday and Canada’s Evan McEachran usurped his team-mate as top qualifier.

McEachran also bettered Morrison’s 93.00 score, laying down a best run of 94.80 points.

The top five men in each heat progress to the finals.

Teal Harle and Alex Beaulieu-Marchand joined their Canadian teammates in the final.

The hosts are represented by Finn Bilous, the highest qualifying New Zealander who’s 93.40 score in heat two qualified him in second place.

Norway’s Birk Ruud had the fourth best qualifying score with 91.40, fresh off the back of his bronze medal in the halfpipe event at the Junior World Championships.

The men’s finals will take place tomorrow alongside the women’s event which will go straight to the finals as the qualification round was cancelled owing to the weather conditions.

In the women's snowboard event, Japan’s Reira Iwabuchi, who finished fourth in 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, qualified in top spot.

The 16-year-old scored 94.00 points ahead of teammate Miyabi Onitsuka with 92.40 points.

Belgium’s Loranne Smans completed the top three with a score of 77.80.

In the men’s snowboard qualifying, Japan also took the top spot with Yutaro Miyazawa posting the best score of the day to win heat two.

Yutaro’s 95.60 was followed by teammate Hiroaki Kunitake in second with 92.00.

American Kyle Mack won heat one with a score of 90.60 with junior world champion Takeru Otsuka in second with 88.40 points.
