Eliminations reduced the field at the World Archery Field Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo today with the top six athletes left in each category.

In the compound, Germany’s Carolin Landesfeind and Britain’s Hope Greenwood qualify for the semi-finals in the women’s event.

Italy’s Irene Franchini and Dutch archer Sandra van der Looy also escape elimination.

They join Slovenia’s Toja Ellison and American Paige Pearce who automatically qualified after they were the top two seeds after the first round.

In the men’s event, Austria’s Nico Wiener and Germany’s Yannick Schuetz join Steve Anderson and Domagoj Buden in the semi-finals.

American Anderson praised the new qualification format which gave him a bye into the semi-finals.

"It's a huge boon, mostly because the unmarked round didn’t matter before," he said.

"To have qualification and especially the unmarked round - which I think is the pinnacle of archery and should be all we do here - to have that matter, it's nice.

"Obviously it helped me out here.

"I usually shoot a good unmarked score, here I didn’t shoot the best, but I was able to hang and shoot a good marked round and take the top spot, and make at least the medal match.

"I'm going to have a semi-final against who-knows-who, try to win that and get after the gold medal again."

Dutch archer Mike Schloesser and fellow American Dan Jasa will join Anderson in the semi-finals.

In the recurve event, Brady Ellison and Jean-Charles Valladont secured their qualification spots.

Japan’s Wataru Oonuki, Sam Herlicq of France, Germany’s Sebastian Rohrberg and Italian Massimiliano Mandia join them in the semi-finals.

Germany’s Lisa Unruh and Jessica Tomasi of Italy were the women’s automatic qualifiers.

Japan and great Britain are also represented in the semi-finals through Nami Fukasawa and Bryony Pitman and Naomi Folkard, respectively.

Italy’s Annalisa Agamennoni compeltes the semi-final line up.

In the final event, four of the barebow archers still in competition hail from Sweden.

Erik Jonsson and Lisa Bjorklund qualified automatically yesterday but were joined by Stine Asell and Frederik Lundmark.

France’s David Jackson, Hungary’s Istvan Kakas and the United States’ John Demmer III complete the men’s line-up.

The women’s event also includes Fawn Girard of the US, Christine Gauthe of France and Germany’s Martina Boscher.
