The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Judo World Cup in Atyrau saw continued success for Paralympian Zviad Gogotchuri prior to the World Championships in Odivelas, Portugal in November.

The Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medallist and 2015 European champion took gold in the 100 kilograms event.

Despite winning his Paralympic gold and earlier World Cup gold in the 90kg category, the Georgian judoka moved up to the higher weight category in Kazakhstan.

He won gold over Great Britain's Christopher Skelley, with Russian world champion Abdula Kuramagomedov and Brazil's Paralympic silver medallist Antonio Tenorio in bronze.

South Korea had a strong tournament, leaving with three gold medals.

Woohyeok Song won in the over-100kg men's event in front of Paralympic silver medallist Wilians Araujo of Brazil. 

The bronze medals went to Russia's Gaidar Gaidarov and Turkey's Onur Tastan.

Seungwoo Chun won South Korea's second gold of the World Cup in the under-60kg event, defeating Romania's Florin Alexandru Bologa in the final.

Chun's compatriot Seongjin Jang took bronze alongside hosts Kazakhstan's Olzhas Orazalyuly.

Kazakhstan picked up another bronze as South Korea took their gold medal haul to three in the under-66kg competition.

Hyungho Jung took gold, beating Ukraine's Davyd Khorava, while Azamat Nokushev picked up another bronze for the hosts with Georgia's Giorgi Gamjashvili.

French Paralympic champion Sandrine Martinet dropped a weight class as she took gold at the competition.

Martinet won gold at Rio 2016 in the under-52kg category but competed in the under-48kg in Atyrau.

Germany's Carmen Brussig took the silver medal behind Martinet, adding another silver to her Rio 2016 second place finish.

Ukraine's Yuliya Halinska and Turkey's Ecem Tasin also repeated their Paralympic positions with third.

Ukraine then took gold over Germany in the under-52 kg event.

Inna Cherniak took her second 2018 World Cup gold with a win over Germany's Paralympic silver medallist, Romona Brussig.

South Korea's Nayeong Song and Ukraine's Alesia Stepaniuk claimed the bronzes.

The 2018 IBSA Judo World Cup in follows the first World Cup event in Antalya, Turkey.

It is also the last major event before the World Championships in Odivelas.

Competition will begin in the Portuguese city on November 16 and run until November 18, offering ranking points towards Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games qualification.
