The World Championships silver medallists recorded a 10-4 victory over their Australian opponents at the Europasportpark in the German capital.

The triumph handed Hungary a fourth World Cup crown following earlier successes in 1979, 1995 and 1999.

Australia's silver medal was their best result at the tournament, with bronze in 1993 their highest finish until this year's edition.

Krisztian Peter Manhercz was the star of the show for Hungary as he scored four times in his side's commanding win.

The match hinged on a blistering run from the Hungarian side in the third period as they increased their lead by three goals to 7-2 in the space of 90 seconds.

Australian captain Aaron Younger had personal success to celebrate as he was named player of the tournament after the final.

"We set this tournament as our benchmark event, so to walk away with the silver medal is great," Younger said, according to the Herald Sun.

"The work that boys have put together over the last months and even years, has been huge."

Olympic champions Serbia recovered from the disappointment of losing their semi-final to Hungary as they claimed the bronze medal by defeating Germany 15-9 in a high-scoring affair.
