Britain held the lead heading into the show jumping event in North Carolina following strong performances in the dressage and cross-country elements of the competition.

Piggy French, Gemma Tattersall and Tom McEwan kept Britain in the lead, but their advantage was reduced during the early rounds of the final.

Rosalind Canter sealed the victory on her horse Allstar B, with a clean ride helping Britain finish with a total score of 88.8 points.

Ireland secured the silver medal as their team event the competition with a score of 93.0 points.

The bronze medal was claimed by the reigning Olympic champions France, who scored 99.8 points for the event.

The three nations all secured Olympic qualification spots at Tokyo 2020 due to their performances, along with Germany, Australia and New Zealand, who all earned places in the top seven.

Japan, who finished fourth, were already assured of a place as the host nation

Canter celebrated both team and individual titles, as her clean final round moved her to the top of the individual standings.

She secured the gold with a score of 24.6 points, making her the first British rider to win both the team and individual events at the World Equestrian Games.

Ireland’s Padraig McCarthy took the silver medal on 27.2, just 0.1 point clear of third place Ingrid Klimke of Germany.
