Ivaylo Ivanov claimed a last gasp victory over home favourite Frank de Wit ©IJF

Home fans endured double disappointment as Dutch judokas fell to defeats in two finals on the second day of the International Judo Federation (IJF) Grand Prix in The Hague.

Hopes of gold were raised when Frank de Wit progressed through to the final of the men's under 81 kilograms competition.

He would face the challenge of Bulgaria's Ivaylo Ivanov at the Sportcampus Zuiderpark.

De Wit appeared on course for victory having scored a waza-ari, but with seconds remaining Ivanov pinned the home favourite.

The Bulgarian was awarded a match-winning ippon to secure top spot on the podium.

Germany's Dominic Ressel and Italy's Antonio Esposito emerged as the winners of the bronze medal contests.

A second Dutch final defeat came in the women's under-70kg competition, as Sanne van Dijke was beaten by Britain's Sally Conway.

Conway, a Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist, would secure gold with an ippon in the final.

Belgium's Gabriella Willems and Germany's Miriam Butkereit came through the repechage system to claim bronze medals.

Britain held hopes of double gold with Alice Schlesinger advancing to the women's under-63kg final.

Her hopes were ended by China's Junxia Yang, who was able to secure an ippon to emerge as the winner.

Schlesinger's compatriot Amy Livesey added to Britain's medal tally by winning bronze, with Japan's Masako Doi earning the final podium position.

Russia's Musa Mogushkov celebrated victory in the men's under-73kg competition.

Mogushkov earned a victory by a waza-ari score against Kosovo's Akil Gjakova in the gold medal bout.

Georgia's Lasha Shavdatuashvili and Moldova's Victor Sterpu were able to secure the bronze medals in the division.

The duo both came through the repechage on their way to earning podium spots.

The Grand Prix is set to conclude tomorrow with the final five divisions due to be contested.
