The Koreans claimed the world title in the women's under 63 kilogram and men's under-81kg divisions, but fell just short in the two heavyweight finals in the women's over-70kg and men's over-100kg divisions at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Odivelas.

In the women's under 63kg division Jin Song Lee - a Paralympic bronze medallist from 2016 - won the gold by beating the 2016 Paralympic silver medallist Iryna Husieva from Ukraine, while in the men's under-81kg division Jung-Min Lee improved on Paralympic silver from Rio to claim gold with a win over Azerbaijan’s Huseyn Rahimli.

Not all of South Korea's judokas triumphed though.

In the women's heavyweight over-70kg division Hayeong Park was beaten by China's Hongyu Wang, while in the men's over-100kg final Woohyeok Song was beaten by Iran's Mohammadreza Kheirollahzadeh. 

Elsewhere in today’s action Brazil picked up a gold through Alana Martin in the women's under-70kg class, as did Ukraine through Oleksandr Nazaarenko in the men's under-90kg.

They beat Uzbekistan's Vasila Aliboeva and Russia's Vladimir Fedin respectively.

In the men's under-100kg final Georgia's Zviad Gogotchuri beat Great Britain's Samuel Ingram.
