Hosts Ghana beat Algeria in the first game of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations ©CAF

Hosts Ghana and Cameroon got off to winning starts at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations taking place in the Ghanaian capital of Accra.

Ghana beat Algeria 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium after defender Gladys Amfobea scored in the 13th minute. 

The second game of the day saw Cameroon come from behind to beat Mali 2-1.

Aissata Traore scored first for Mali, before Claudine Meffometou Tcheno and Ajara Nchout ensured a victory for Cameroon.

They and the hosts now both have three points in Group A.

Tomorrow will see the first games of Group B as Nigeria play South Africa and Zambia meet Equatorial Guinea.

The Oceania Football Confederation Women's Nations Cup will also begin in New Caledonia, with New Zealand defending their title.
