Spain's Beatriz Ferrer-Salat claimed a home victory as the International Equestrian Federation's Dressage World Cup hosted a leg in Madrid for the first time.

The 52-year-old double Olympic medallist rode Delgado to success at the fourth stop of the Western European League season, scoring 81.285 points for a comprehensive win at IFEMA.

Both horse and rider were in perfect harmony for the majority of their display, collecting just a single error in canter.

"Before he does his test I always let him walk so he can relax and breathe, and then he's ready to perform," said Ferrer-Salat.

"I talk with him a lot and it's always a wonderful feeling with him, he trusts me and I trust him."

Spain also finished second as Claudio Castilla Ruiz rode Alcaide to a score of 78.915 points.

Portugal's Maria Caetano and Coroado came third on 77.665 points

The circuit is next due to move to Austrian city Salzburg in a fortnight's time.
