World Taekwondo Europe President Sakis Pragalos used his New Year's message to discuss his future plans for the organisation, such as a quarterly European taekwondo ranking list.

Pragalos discussed his intention to work with the World Taekwondo global membership system team to create the ranking list, as well as to introduce a European Taekwondo Award Gala and make coaching seminars more accessible.

"It is our ambition to further increase our activities and provide more services to our members and athletes," he said.

The official also used his message to highlight the importance of 2019 in terms of qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

"On the way to Tokyo 2020, the year 2019 is of the utmost importance," he said.

"It will be a decisive year for those athletes that are collecting ranking points to reach the best possible ranking.

"Also, for athletes that have other ambitions than the Olympics, Taekwondo Europe will offer them a wide array of events to reach for the sky.

"Taekwondo Europe has already closed partnerships with amazing hosts for its 2019 events and all events have been allocated."

Pragalos also looked back at 2018 and the taekwondo events held across Europe.

"From the President's Cup in Greece with more than 2,200 athletes, to the European Master Championships in Spain with only 60 athletes, we offer events for all," the Greek claimed.

"For the first time ever, Poland hosted the Under-21 European Championships and did an amazing job in doing so.

"Our loyal partners Turkey, Russia, Bulgaria, Greece and Spain all hosted amazing events which gave our athletes the possibility to fight at the highest European platform."
