China's Lin Gaoyuan defeated compatriot and the 2018 Youth Olympic Games champion Wang Chuqin to win the men's title at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Hungarian Open.

The tournament's third seed eased to victory against Wang in the final at the Budapest Olympic Hall, winning 13-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-9 to clinch the Hungarian Open crown.

Lin had defeated second seed Xu Xin of China 14-12, 11-9, 11-6, 11-9 earlier in the day to progress to the final.

"I am really happy to win the title in the first competition of the year," he said.

"Such a good start is a positive sign for the rest of the year for me.

"I was prepared for a long match in the final as we always play tight matches.”

The women's final was also an all-Chinese affair as world number four Chen Meng beat world number two Zhu Yuling.

The tie was evenly matched until the fourth game, with Chen eventually triumphing 9-11, 11-7, 11-13, 13-11, 11-4, 11-5.

"We've played each other many many times," Meng said.

"I am pleased to win the title and I will do my best to raise or at least keep up my performance for the next competitions."

The next ITTF World Tour competition will be the Qatar Open Platinum event from March 28 to 31.
