World junior records were set in both the men's and women's 3,000 metre relay finals today at the International Skating Union World Junior Short Track Championships in Canada.

In the last events of the Championships at the Maurice Richard Arena in Montreal, the first record was set in the women's race.

South Korea's quartet of Yu Min Jeon, Chae Hyun Kim - who crashed out of the 500m final yesterday - Yoon Jung Park and new 1,500m champion Whi Min Seo crossed the line in 4min 14.699sec, around seven tenths of a second in front of Russia in second and nine tenths ahead of Italy, who took bronze.

Not wanting to be outdone, in the men's final China's team of Wenlong Li, Jian Song, Long Sun and Pengyu Wang then set a record of their own to seal gold.

Even with a new world best time of 3:58.501, though, they only finished 700ths of a second in front of The Netherlands.

Russia were the only country to medal in both the women's and men's relays, taking bronze in the men's event with a time of 3:58.602.

She beat South Korea's Yoon Jung Park to the gold by around half a second, while the hosts made the podium through Claudia Heeney, who took bronze in 1:32.422.

In the men's race South Korea's Ho Kyoung Jung took victory in 1:28.042.

He finished just ahead of his compatriot Tae Sung Kim, while Japan's Kazuki Yoshinaga took third place in 1:28.446.
