Majid Rashed has been unanimously re-elected as President of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) during the body's fifth General Assembly in Dubai.

Rashed, who is from the United Arab Emirates where the Assembly has been taking place, was elected after standing unopposed for a second term.

Six other positions on the APC Executive Board were also filled today, with the elections the only item on today's agenda.

Also re-elected to the position of vice-president was Japan's Masayuki Mizuno, while South Korea's Jang Hyang Sook won the other vice-president position, replacing India's Rajesh Tomar.

Malaysia's Keng Chuan Ng and Abdulraheem Alsheikh from Saudi Arabia were elected as members at large, while Mongolia's Nasabat Oyunbat was named as the new Women in Sport Committee chair.

She replaces Anisa Alhooti from Oman.

The new Board held their first meeting immediately.

"I hope that with hard work, tolerance and peace, we can continue doing the noble work of supporting our Movement and our abilities, which has always been our centre of focus," Rashed said.

"We have had a successful Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games and hope to have more such Games which will leave an impact in everyone's mind.

"We, as the new Board, guarantee to implement the APC strategic plan and try to achieve our goals.

"In the last four years, we have worked well, even if there have been challenges, we have always worked together for the APC and its membership.

"We want to work even harder now and encourage the GA [General Assembly] and EB [Executive Board] to do better for the future.

"So, all the best to the new Board."

Yesterday, when the General Assembly began, the National Paralympic Committee of Bhutan was formally ratified as a full member of the APC, while a biennial report on the APC's work was presented, together with an update on the 2015 to 2018 strategic plan.

The Assembly also voted "overwhelmingly" to approve the APC Constitution setting term limits for the Executive Board and defining the membership policy.

Financial audited reports from 2016 to 2018 were also approved and presentations were given from the 2018 Asian Para Games Organising Committee as well as the organisers of the Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games.
