It makes this year’s event, due to take place at the South Point Hotel Casino and Spa from tomorrow through to Sunday (February 10), the largest in history.

The previous record of 3,546 was set last year.

Organisers are expecting to hit the 3,700 mark for 2019.

"If we continue at this pace, it won't be long before we have 4,000 shooters on the line at one event," Bruce Cull, President of the National Field Archery Association, said.

"Wouldn’t that be something?"

The Vegas Shoot is the largest indoor archery tournament in the world.

It will play host to the Indoor Archery World Series Final on Saturday (February 9).

Archers in Las Vegas will shoot 30 arrows a day for three days.

Only three women have ever shot a 900-point round in the 52-year history of the Vegas Shoot.

They are the United States' Mary Hamm in 2004, compatriot Sarah Lance in 2014 and Denmark’s Tanja Jensen in 2017.

"In 2017, I had spent a lot of time working on myself and my equipment," Jensen said.

"When I got to the tournament, I had a ton of confidence that I would have a great result.

"That gives you a certain sense of calm.

"You know that all you have to do is just shoot like you do in practice and good things will come."

In the men’s open championship division, shooting 30 10s a day for three days secures a ticket into the shoot-down.

A score of 900 in the women's division is likely to be enough to win the event.

It may not stay that way for much longer, though, with the average score of the top finishers increasing annually.

"Most people have shot 300s in practice but doing it in front of that many people at one of the largest indoor tournaments in the world is very different," Jensen added.

"There are more distractions, more pressure and the desire to want to shoot well increases at least tenfold."

The Indoor Archery World Series is a collection of open-entry tournaments for professional and amateur archers.

The 2018-2019 circuit has already featured events in Strassen in Luxembourg, Macau, Rome, Seoul and Nîmes in France.
