South Korea's Hwang Dae-heon tasted success over a second distance as the final leg of the International Skating Union Short Track World Cup season concluded in Turin.

The 19-year-old won over 500 metres at the Tazzoli Ice Rink yesterday, the distance he won World Championship gold and Olympic silver in last year.

He doubled his workload today as he came out on top in the men's 1,000m in the Italian 2006 Winter Olympic host city.

Hwang edged compatriot Park Ji-won on the line as Canada's Steven Dubois won bronze.

"I felt a bit tired but I was able to focus again," Hwang said.

"It's exciting.

"All the training I have done has paid off."

Elsewhere, there was more home success for Italian Martina Valcepina in the second women's 500m competition of the World Cup.

She added to her win over the sprint distance yesterday with a second gold, beating Britain's Elise Christie and Maame Biney of the United States respectively.

Olympic 1,500m champion Suzanne Schulting of The Netherlands slipped out and was fourth.

"I was so much more relaxed because of yesterday," said the Italian.

"I could just go for it."

The second men's 500m went to another South Korean as Hyo Jun-lim edged home in front of compatriot Gun Woo-kim.

Songnan Yu took bronze for China.

In the women's 1,000m final, Canada's three-time Olympic medallist Kim Boutin took top honours as she beat South Korea's Choi Min-jeong and Alyson Charles, another Canadian, to the line.

Three relay gold medals were also decided today with Russia clinching two of them.

They won the men's 5,000m title in front of Japan and Italy respectively, as well as the 2,000m mixed crown over Canada and the US.

The Netherlands captured the 3,000m women's relay gold in front of Italy and Russia.

With the season over, the World Cup distance champions have been decided with Poland's Natalia Maliszewska winning the women's 500m despite Valcepina's heroics.

Schulting triumphed over the 1,000m distance and also won the 1,500m rankings.

Lin Hyo-jun won the men's 500m for South Korea as Park ruled the 1,000m division.

Gun Woo-kim bagged the 1,500m title to make it a clean sweep for the Koreans.

Focus will now turn to the World Championships in Bulgarian capital Sofia, beginning on March 8.
