France's Florian Perez and Switzerland's Anja Weber claimed the interval classic technique cross-country titles as action begun today at the Winter European Youth Olympic Festival in Sarajevo and East Sarajevo.

Perez triumphed in the boys' 10 kilometres event with a time of 30min 37.8sec.

He led a French podium sweep with Julien Arnaud second in 30:55.9 and Gaspard Rousset third in 32:26.8.

In the girls' 7.5km race, Weber beat fellow Swiss Nadja Kaelin to the gold medal by 29.5 seconds with a time of 25:22.5.

Rounding out the top three was Poland's Monika Skinder, who finished 48.4 seconds off the pace.

Among today's other winners were Italy's Elisa Confortola in the girls' 1,500 metres short track speed skating competition and Hungary's Attila Talabos in the boys' equivalent.

Confortola prevailed with an A final time of 2:39.258 with Slovakia's Petra Rusnakova second in 2:39.283 and The Netherlands' Michelle Velzeboer third in 2:40.240.

Talabos took his victory in 2:24.975 and was followed in the standings by Russia's Vladimir Balbekov in 2:25.074 and then Turkey’s Furkan Akar in 2:25.331.

There was also success today for Austrian Alpine skier Magdalena Egger in the girls' slalom event.

She posted a two-run time of 1:40.70 with France's Marie Lamure taking the silver medal, 0.40 seconds behind, and fellow countrywoman Marion Chevrier securing the bronze, 2.73 seconds back.
