Scotland took sole control of top spot in the men’s round robin standings at the World Junior Curling Championships by earning another two victories in Liverpool.

The 2018 runners-up, led by skip Tyler Tardi, had won their opening two matches of the competition at the Queen’s Place Emera Centre.

Their record improved further by overcoming China 10-4 as the third day of action began in the city in Nova Scotia.

Tardi then guided his team to a narrow victory over the host nation Canada, with Scotland earning a crucial point in an extra end to triumph 8-7.

Scotland are followed by Norway and New Zealand in the standings, with both teams having three wins and one defeat.

New Zealand’s unbeaten start to the tournament was ended by the Norwegians, who emerged from their tight battle with a 7-6 win.

The Norwegian team then battled back from 7-3 down to China to earn a dramatic 9-7 victory.

Canada are one of four teams tied for fourth place, with two wins and two defeats.

The defending champions had earned an 8-3 win over Switzerland prior to their loss to Scotland.

Switzerland, Germany and the United States have matched Canada’s record to date, while China, Italy and Sweden face an uphill battle if they are to qualify for the semi-finals.

The women’s round robin standings are led by Russia and Switzerland, who have won each of their opening three matches.

Russia were 11-6 winners against the US today, while the Swiss beat Scotland 10-7.

Defending champions Canada were 9-6 winners against Japan to lie in joint third place, with China and South Korea.

South Korea were 7-2 winners against China in their match today.

Teams are hoping to secure a place in the top four in the men’s and women’s standings at the end of the round robin stage, which would earn them a semi-final spot.
