A Committee has been created by the Municipality of Caserta to oversee the organisation of events outside of the sports programme at this year's Summer Universiade in Naples.

The group, established during a meeting attended by Caserta Mayor Carlo Marino, will be responsible for running cultural and promotional events connected to the Summer Universiade in the region.

In a statement, the Naples 2019 Organising Committee said the events would begin to coincide with the 100 days to go mark on March 25.

Officials in Caserta have promised to capitalise on the region holding sporting competitions including archery finals, men's water polo tournaments and football and basketball training during the multi-sport event.

"In Caserta there will be 1,600 boys coming from all over the world, and we must try our best to integrate them also in the city’s social fabric," Marino said following the meeting.

Bruno Campanile, consultant for the Universiade Commissioner, said it was important to hold exhibitions, concerts and other events to "bring citizens closer to the Summer Universiade".

"We must show the true face of our territory, such as promoting our food and wine excellence," added the president of the Caserta Chamber of Commerce, Tommaso De Simone.

"The Universiade represents the real great occasion for us in this particular historic moment."

The 2019 Summer Universiade is scheduled to take place from July 3 to 14.
