Midol claims back-to-back wins at FIS Ski Cross World Cup in Sunny Valley to secure crystal globe

France's Bastien Midol secured back-to-back wins at the International Ski Federation Ski Cross World Cup in Sunny Valley to secure the overall title with one race left this season.

Midol also triumphed in yesterday's men's final at the Cross Park course, located in Russia's Chelyabinsk region.

He won again today, defeating Switzerland's Alex Fiva, Canada's Brady Leman and Germany's Florian Wilmsmann in the big final.

The victory gave the Frenchman enough of a lead in the overall standings to claim the crystal globe for 2019.

Midol currently has 696 points, while his compatriot Jean Frederic Chapuis is second with 472 points and Switzerland's Alex Fiva is third on 463.

Switzerland's Fanny Smith also managed back-to-back victories, defeating her compatriot Sanna Luedi, France's Alizee Baron and Canada's India Sherret in the women's big final.

The Swiss skier is now developing an impressive lead in the World Cup standings, currently on 763 points.

Her nearest opponent is Sweden's Sandra Naeslund on 675 points, while Canada's Marielle Thompson is third with 556 points.

Naeslund will have to perform exceptionally in the final race of the season and rely on Smith finishing in a low scoring position if the Swede has any chance of taking the crystal globe.

The final race will take place in Veysonnaz in Switzerland on March 17.
