Katie Zaferes lost the final race of the women’s Super League Triathlon Series by millimetres in Singapore, though the result was still enough for the US athlete to seal the overall season title.

The 29-year-old finished the endurance event featuring three triathlon’s back-to-back, in 1 hour 04min, 24sec, the same time as France’s Cassandre Beaugrand, though a photo showed the French athlete just ahead on the line.

Despite the loss It means Zaferes does still finish the series top of the pile on 113 points after four rounds, 37 clear of The Netherlands' Rachel Klamer, who came third today in 1:04.30.

For sealing the overall victory Zaferes also gains $100,000 (£76,500/€88,000) for her efforts.

On the men’s side France’s Vincent Luis took the win in a less tight race, with a time of 59min 19sec.

Great Britain’s Jonathan Brownlee came second in 59:27, while Henri Schoeman from South Africa came third in 59:34.

It means Luis also takes the overall title on 107 points, just two ahead of Schoeman.

Brownlee finished third overall on 96 points.

"I still can’t believe it you know, I came here pretty confident with my training and the lead I had," Luis said.

"This weekend shows anything can happen – that is the sport, and I think that is why we love it."
