This year's International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Judo Grand Prix in Baku will be shown live on national television in Azerbaijan, it has been announced.

IBSA said Azerbaijan's Paralympic Committee (APC) and the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of Azerbaijan had signed an agreement to broadcast coverage of the event, due to run from May 13 to 14.

The Memorandum of Understanding grants the company exclusive rights to show Para-judo events in the country.

Broadcast rights for the Grand Prix, the opening competition of the IBSA Judo season, have been handed over to İctimai Television, who will screen the event on the public television network.

Last month, it was announced that medal-winning judoka at the event would receive handmade sculptures showing off Azerbaijan's culture.

The top three are set to receive "Jirtdan" figures, handmade by Para-athlete Bahar Shikhiyeva.

All of the figures will be dressed in judogi with the initiative announced by the APC.

The event is expected to attract around 250 athletes from 43 countries, and qualification points for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will be on offer.

Action will take place at the same time as the able-bodied competition at the International Judo Federation's (IJF) Baku Grand Slam.

This comes after a collaboration between the IJF and IBSA to better-promote blind judo.
