The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong successfully held the 2019 edition of its Olympism Camp.

Organised alongside the Hong Kong Sports Institute, the event allows youngsters to take part in interactive games, team activities and seminars.

Participants learnt the importance of Olympism and team spirit, with 61 people taking part in all.

Elite athletes attended and shared their experiences with the young hopefuls.

The camp lasted for three days and also celebrated Beijing's upcoming hosting of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

"The opportunity for student athletes to meet and learn from the elite athletes was valuable and inspiring, whilst elite athletes also expressed that they were highly impressed and motivated by the student athletes as all of them are keen sports lovers," a statement from the organisers said.

Frank Fu, the chaiman of the Hong Kong Olympic Academy, said that all of the participating athletes should now demonstrate the Olympic values during training and competitions.

He called on them to promote sports to the general public and to motivate others to participate.

This, he said, could lead to more athletes representing Hong Kong on the international stage.
