First round action went ahead today in the men’s and women’s recurve draws at the European Indoor Archery Championships, as all the top seeds received byes.

In the men’s event Italy’s Massimliano Mandia, who was given the top seeding after finishing first in qualifying with a score of 590 at the Samsun Archery Hall, will play Turkey’s Muhammed Guneri in round two tomorrow.

Guneri, seeded 16th, made it though with a 6-0 win over Israel's Itay Shanny.

At the other end of the draw Ukraine's Yury Havelko, who finished second in qualifying, will face Willem Bakker from The Netherlands after he beat Belarus' Raman Nikitsionak 6-2.

Dan Olaru from Romania, the 2017 silver medallist, made it through round one with a shoot-off win over another Belarusian Aliaksei Dubrova.

He will now face Ukraine's sixth seed Viktor Ruban.

On the women's side Italy's Claudia Mandia has been rewarded for a 6-2 win over her compatriot Chiara Rebagliati in round one, with a tie against top seed Angeline Cohendet tomorrow.

Cohendet, who won bronze in 2017, gained the number one seeding after finishing first in qualifying with a score of 585.

After also receiving a bye in round one, Ukraine’s second seed Anastasia Pavlova will face Moldova’s Alexandra Mirca in her first match.

Mirca beat Turkey’s Aybuke Aktuna 6-2 in round one.

Tomorrow recurve action will continue until just two finalists and two semi-final losers remain to battle it out for the medals, while early round action will get underway in the compound draws.
