The winners of the men’s and women’s wheelchair tennis events will earn qualification for the 2019 ITF World Team Cup, scheduled to take place in Israel for the first time this year from May 13 to 18.

The six men’s teams will start the four-day competition, due to begin tomorrow, in two pools of three nations.

Sri Lanka, Australia and China are in Pool One and Thailand, Malaysia and Iraq are in Pool Two.

After three days of round-robin competition, the top two nations in each pool are set to play each other in the final on Monday (March 4).

Top seeds Sri Lanka play China, the 2016 Asian Qualification event winners and 2018 finalists, in tomorrow’s opening Pool One contest.

Second seeds Thailand face Iraq in the first round-robin tie in Pool Two.

While Sri Lanka and Thailand top the seeding, Australia’s Ben Weekes, the world number 20, is the highest ranked men’s player competing in Kuala Lumpur over the next four days.

Sir Lanka are led by world number 38 Suresh Dharmasena, while Thailand’s team is headlined by world number 30 Suthi Khlongrua.

Hosts Malaysia and Thailand will contest the women’s event in a best-of-three series of ties over a possible three days of competition.

The first women’s tie between Malaysia and Thailand is scheduled to be played on Saturday (March 2).

Sakhorn Khanthasit, the two-time Asian Para Games women’s singles gold medallist, leads the Thai challenge.

The former world number six returned to the top 10 in the global rankings last month.

Khanthasit is joined on Thailand's team by Wanitha Inthanin, while world number 68 Faizatul Ahya Abdullah Thani features on the Malaysian team alongside Nur Aqidah Zainuddin and Norisah Bahrom.
