Chef de Mission Mariana Mello will head the group with the move designed to "acknowledge women's critical contribution to sport in Brazil".

Nine women are set to be part of the team in all with the Games due to take place in Rosário in Argentina between March 14 and 23.

Dasha Mishchenko and Gabriela Soares will cover operations with Glaucia Heier in charge of technical support and Natália Mourão leading medical.

Flora Silva wiill head-up massage therapy with Amanda Lima running physiotherapy and Mônica Faria and Miriam Jeske taking charge of communications.

Brazil plan to send 62 athletes to Argentina where they will compete in nine sports - beach handball,  beach rugby, beach soccer, beach volleyball, open water swimming, sailing, surfing, triathlon and water skiing,

International Women's Day will be held on March 8 in the build-up to the Games.

"COB employs 122 women and 112 men," COB President Paulo Wanderley Teixeira said. 

"Additionally, in December, COB launched the Moral and Sexual Harassment Prevention Policy, designed jointly with UN Women. 

"The mission will be in Rosário in the month dedicated to women's fight for equal rights and represents one step further towards the acknowledgement of women's contribution to Brazilian Olympic sport."

Mello, a judoka, was previously general manager of Brazil's home Rio 2016 Paralympics.

She was results coordinator when the city staged the Pan American Games in 2007.

"Some of the objectives of the mission are to offer young Olympic sport athletes the unique experience of joining Team Brazil and competing at a multi-sport event, some of them for the first time, while giving the athletes an opportunity to compete and observe their potential adversaries at the World Beach Games San Diego 2019," she said.
