Hosts Malaysia came from two goals down to thrash Singapore 6-2 on day one of the International Ice Hockey Federation Challenge Cup of Asia.

Bryan Shao Herng Lee's strike ensured the visitors led the Group A clash 1-0 at the end of the first period and he doubled the Singapore advantage shortly into the second.

Malaysia struck back when Wai Kin Brandon Tan netted after 25 minutes and the same player equalised five minutes later to bring the match level.

The home side would lead going into the final period at the Malaysia National Ice Skating Stadium as Nurul Nizam Deen Versluis found the target with half-an-hour played.

Three more goals arrived in the last stanza as Malaysia added gloss to the scoreline, with Chee Ming Bryan Lim scoring two of them.

Mohd Hafis Anjam was also on target.

One other match was played on day one with Indonesia edging Oman 3-2 in Group B.

Group A is the stronger pool at the tournament with the top two advancing straight into the semi-finals.

The bottom two Group A sides will meet the top two in Group B for the right to join them. 

Philippines will play Singapore in Group A tomorrow, which also includes defending champions Mongolia.

Macau will play Indonesia in the three-team Group B, where every side will play the other twice.
