More than 250 dishes will be on the daily menu for athletes and coaches of the 2nd European Games, Yulia Kravchenko, head of catering at Minsk 2019, has revealed.

The Athletes’ Village at the Games, due to take place in the Belarus capital from June 21 until 30 this year, will accommodate about 6,000 people, and its dining hall is designed for 2,000 seats.

"The menu will include dishes of European, Belarusian and Asian cuisine, and kosher meals," said Kravchenko.

"Athletes will be able to visit the dining hall any time, without any restrictions.

"Approximately 250-270 dishes will be on the daily menu."

It has also been announced that the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) will help control the safety and quality of food products for the participants of the 2nd European Games.

"Food products and biologically active supplements will be tested for substances prohibited in sport," NADA Director Sergei Belyayev said.

"Food products subject to testing have been listed.

"Testing will be launched as soon as the corresponding food products are stocked."

The overall European Games catering programme will also cover more than 1,800 guests, about 1,200 media representatives, 500 employees of the broadcasting company and about 8,000 volunteers.

"These are different programmes," Kravchenko added.

“An athlete needs five-six kilograms of food while other participants much less.

"We will not forget about fans.

"Special catering points will be organised for them.

"The 2nd European Games catering will feature local produce,

"At the 1st European Games in Baku in 2015 the share of local products in catering totaled 30 per cent.

"Taking into account the high quality and popularity of Belarusian products, the share of local food products will be considerably higher in Minsk."

Kravchenko added that Minsk 2019 applied stringent criteria as it selected food suppliers.

"We must meet the international catering requirements for athletes.

"Business Center Stolitsa and LIDO company have been chosen to supply food products for the Games.

"The personnel - more than 900 people - have been carefully selected and trained.

"Specialists with the experience of working at large sport events, for instance, the 2014 Sochi Olympics, assisted with the training programme as well."
