The Bahrain Olympic Academy, under the umbrella of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), has discussed possible ways of cooperation with a visiting delegation from Northumbria University in English city Newcastle.

Academy director Nabeel Taha, joined by Olympic Solidarity manager Maryam Mardana and training and development executive coordinator Mahmood Yateem and training and development specialist Ahmed Hafed, had a fruitful meeting with Katy Storie, international development manager at Northumbria University, and Zahra Munther.

The university has "successful and distinguished" experiences in linking academic achievement to sport, in addition to organising a series of sports programmes that contribute to enhancing students' abilities in the sports side along with the scientific and academic aspects.

Storie also presented their most prominent programmes and sports activities, which provide the best conditions for students to exercise and develop their abilities in sports, while maintaining their academic achievement.

She noted that the university embraces a lot of students from inside and outside England, and has a Bahraini student playing basketball.

Storie also expressed the university’s willingness to offer the Academy its vast experience in order to help Bahrain universities benefit from Northumbria programmes, which include coaches and athletes' missions.

Taha thanked Northumbria University for its cooperation, which reflects the directives of BOC President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa in the implementation of national programmes to develop the youth and sports sectors in Bahrain.

Sheikh Nasser is also the chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
