Hosts Malaysia and Singapore booked their places in the semi-finals of the International Ice Hockey Federation Challenge Cup of Asia in Kuala Lumpur today.

Both sides had to negotiate quarter finals after finishing third and fourth respectively in Group A - the tournament's stronger pool.

Malaysia saw off Macau - who came second in Group B - 8-1 at the National Ice Skating Stadium.

Singapore beat Group B winners Indonesia 7-4 to confirm their place in the last four.

Group A winners The Philippines and runners-up Mongolia advanced automatically to the semi-finals.

The home side will now meet Mongolia - the defending champions - while Singapore will collide with The Philippines for a place in the final.

Malaysia proved far too strong for Macau as they scored six times without reply in the first two periods.

The other quarter-final was a livelier affair with Indonesia 3-2 in front after the opening period.

Singapore scored three times to Indonesia's one in the second stanza to take control and then never looked back.

The semi-finals are tomorrow.
