Francesco Friedrich completed his sweep of the major titles on offer this season as he added the four-man gold medal to the two-man crown he won last week with another dominant performance at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation World Championships in Whistler.

The German, the reigning Olympic two-and four-man champion, was second at the halfway stage but overhauled Oskars Kibermanis of Latvia to retain his world four-man title at the Whistler Sliding Centre.

Friedrich and Candy Bauer, Martin Grothkopp and Thorsten Margis finished their four runs in a total time of 3min 21.33sec to beat the Latvian crew by 0.29sec.

Kibermanis, Matiss Miknis, Arvis Vilkaste and Janis Strenga were forced to settle for silver after leading at the midway point of the competition.

Their silver medal nevertheless represented their first podium finish at a World Championships.

Justin Kripps, with Ryan Sommer, Cameron Stones and Ben Coakwell of hosts Canada took bronze, 0.45 slower than the victorious German team.

The triumph for Friedrich saw him become the first bobsleigh pilot to claim all of the major gold medals in a single season since compatriot Andre Lange achieved the feat in the 2007 to 2008 season.

Friedrich also won the overall two and four-man World Cups and secured a record-equalling fifth straight two-man title in Whistler last week.

Today's competition brought the bobsleigh and skeleton season for able-bodied athletes to a close.

The Para Sport World Championships are scheduled to be held in Lake Placid from March 30 to 31.
