Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev joined FISU President Oleg Matytsin to watch the concluding acts of the Universiade.

It followed a dominant performance from the Russian team as they finished with 98 medals more than their nearest challengers South Korea, as the hosts secured 41 golds, 39 silver and 32 bronze.

A video montage of athletes' achievements opened proceedings in the Platinum Arena, the home of figure skating at the Universiade.

Figure skating was showcased once more with Sochi 2014 Olympic champion Adelina Sotnikova among those performing.

Following the athletes' parade, Matytsin praised their performances and said he hoped many would compete at future Winter Olympics or Universiades.

"It gives me mixed feeling to address you at the Closing Ceremony," he said.

"We have shared with athletes their joy of victory and disappointment in defeat.

"Krasnoyarsk has set new standards for preparation and hospitality.

"This will remain in our hearts forever.

"Allow me to express thanks to a particular special group of people, the volunteers.

"They had a constant smile on their face and the warmth of their hearts even melted snow in Krasnoyarsk.

"Athletes, your performances will have inspired millions around the world.

"We can be sure there will be many Olympic athletes from these Games in the future.

"Success is never achieved alone, I hope you take time to thank people around you.

"We look forward to seeing many of you in the future in Lucerne and at future Winter Universiades."

Matytsin officially declared the Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk closed while joining Krasnoyarsk Mayor Sergej Eremin and Lucerne counterpart Beat Züsli on stage.

The trio participated in the traditional handover of the FISU flag, with Züsli the recipient as 2021 hosts Lucerne start the final stretch of their preparations.

Züsli praised the efforts of Krasnoyarsk 2019, before inviting athletes and officials to the Swiss city.

"What a Winter Universiade this has been," he said.

"I am overwhelmed.

"In 2021 central Switzerland will host the next Winter Universiade.

"Lucerne is the cultural and economic hub.

"Compared to Krasnoyarsk, Lucerne is a small hub in a big wheel.

"The region of Switzerland embodies the spirit of the country, including cultural activities and hospitable people.

"Music and sport are emotion, both make you feel at home.

"The symbol of that is the chapel bridge in Lucerne, which is nearly 600 years old.

"Bridges bring people together and that is what we aim to do.

"We are hoping to do that in Switzerland and we want to pamper you."

Krasnoyarsk and Lucerne then staged a joint performance, which sought to highlight the culture of both cities.

The Ceremony was brought to a close with the extinguishing of the Krasnoyarsk 2019 cauldron.
