Following two three game matches in the first two rounds at the St. Jakobshalle, the Chinese world number two finally sealed himself a straight games victory by beating Caljouw, the world number 29, 21-17, 21-9.

Indonesia's fourth seed Anthony Ginting is also through after he beat another Chinese player, the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic champion Lin Dan, 14-21, 21-8, 21-11 later in the day. 

The top women's seed also remains in the World Tour Super 300 competition as Chen Yufei beat India's Riya Mookerjee 21-10, 21-8.

It means the world number two is now into the semi-finals and is just two wins away from sealing her second successive title, having won the All England Championships in Birmingham last time out.

Twenty-one-year-old Chen will now play South Korea's fourth seed Sung Ji Hyun in the last four, after she beat Russia's eighth seed Evgeniya Kosetskaya 21-18, 21-11.

On the other side of the draw Beiwen Zhang from the United States will now play Japan's Saena Kawakami, after they beat Japan's Ayumi Mine and Spain's Clara Azurmendi.

Those matches finished 21-13, 17-21, 21-9 and 21-16, 21-14 respectively. 

The semi-finals will be played tomorrow, before the finals go ahead on Sunday (March 17).

At another tournament taking place simultaneously in China, Malaysia's Iskandar Zulkarnain, who yesterday knocked out the top seed in the men's singles, advanced into the semi-finals of the Lingshui Masters.

He went through with a 13-21, 21-9, 21-12 win over South Korea's Chih Chieh Yang and will now play China's own Haichao Liu, who beat his compatriot Zhengze Gao 21-13,-21-10.

Meanwhile in the women's singles the top seed Yiman Zhang remains in the competition.

She beat another Chinese player, Shuting Ji, 21-9, 21-13 to advance into the semi-finals.

The tournament is a Super-100 event.
