Brother-sister duo Mekseb and Mossana Debesay won the respective elite men’s and women’s road races on the last day of competition at the African Continental Cycling Championships in Bahir Dar in Ethiopa.

Mekseb Debesay held off Algerians Azzedine Lagab and Youcef Reguigui to win the men’s 166.4 kilometres event.

In the women’s 89.6km event, Mossana Debesay triumphed ahead of home favourite Eyeru Tesfoam Gebru.

Rounding out the podium was South Africa’s Joanna van de Winkel.

There was also success for Eritrea in the men’s and women’s under-23 road races.

Henok Mulubrhan was the men’s winner with Algeria’s Yacine Hamza second and Burkina Faso’s Paul Daumont third.

Tasting victory in the women’s event was Desiet Kidane.

Ethiopia’s Selam Gebrezihe was the runner-up, followed by Burkino Faso’s Awa Bamogo.
