Mexican competitors finished in the top three on the first day of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Longines Grand Prix at Coapexpan.

Lorenza O’Farrill won the 1.60 metre event on Calvira, with her compatriot Andres Azcarraga finishing second on Contendros.

The pair were the only two clear to move on to the jump-off.

Fellow Mexican Gerardo Pasquel Mendez was in third place on Mighty Mouse but was kept out of jump-off contention with one penalty on the clock.

A total of 24 horse and rider combinations contested the course in total.

The Grand Prix is due to continue tomorrow.

The FEI Nations Cup of Mexico, which has places at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at stake, is due to begin on Sunday (May 6).
