Silver went to Uzbekistan’s Islam Aslanov, who earned 940 points after finishing in 52.59sec, with bronze going to Cameron Leslie of New Zealand, in the S4 category, whose 1:24.65 was worth 923 points.

On the system of grading in Para swimming, the lower the S number the greater the degree of physical disability.

There was joy for Toh but disappointment for Singapore’s Paralympic champion Yip Pin Xiu as the S2 swimmer finished last in the women’s 100m backstroke final in the S1-2, S6-14 class.

The gold was won by New Zealand’s S9 swimmer Pascoe in 1:08.31, which earned a total of 1,050 points.

Valeriia Shabalina of Russia, an S14 swimmer, took silver with 1007 points after finishing in 1:07.34.

Uzbekistan’s S13 swimmer Nigorakhon Mirzokhidova took bronze with 984 points, touching the wall in 1:06.42.

Pin earned 779 poiints for her 2.21.33 finish, which was slower than the effort of 02.20.25 that had earned her fourth place in the overall qualifying.

But Pascoe saved her best for last as she won the women’s 100m freestyle in a world record of 1,039 points after clocking 1:00.36.

Shabalina, meanwhile, earned gold in the women’s 100m butterfly with 989 points after clocking 1:06.28.

Silver went to Hong Kong’s S14 swimmer Yui Lam Chan, who earned 968 points for an 1:07.24 finish, while Elizabeth Smith, an S9 swimmer from the United States, claimed bronze with an 1:08.54 finish.
