Shawn Morelli was among the winners as the opening International Cycling Union Para-cycling Road World Cup of the season concluded in Corridonia.

The American was hoping to replicate the achievement of team-mate Alicia Dana, who yesterday completed the time trial and road race double.

Morelli had already sealed the individual time trial gold in the women’s C4 competition at the event in Italy.

She produced a strong ride in the 54 kilometre road race event to clinch a second gold medal in a time of 1 hour, 50 min and 23 sec.

Australia’s Meg Lemon placed second at 40 seconds down, followed by her team-mate Hannah MacDougall who rounded off the podium in 1:55.37.

A second American gold of the day came in the team relay where Dana won her third title of the weekend, alongside Ryan Pinney and Freddie de los Santos.

The Australian team were able to celebrate a victory for Paige Greco, who emerged as the winner of the women’s C3 competition.

She triumphed in a time of 1:33.43 following a closely contested sprint finish.

United States’ Jamie Whitmore and Germany’s Denise Schindler were both awarded the same time in second and third respectively.

Canada's Tristen Chernove and Shelley Gauiter would also clinch road race titles.

The World Cup season will resume in Ostend, with competition at the Belgian venue taking place from May 16 to 19.

Baie-Comeau in Canada will host the final event from August 8 to 11.
