Croatian teenager Amanda Mlinarić broke her own cadet world record to claim top spot in qualification for the women's compound event at the Archery World Cup in Antalya.

The 17-year-old progressed in style with a score of 704 out of a possible 720 points as action began at Antalya Archery Field.

Mlinarić's performance saw her clinch top seeding at just her third World Cup event and beat her previous mark by one point.

"I was just thinking about my technique and nothing else, and I didn’t worry a lot," she said.

"Obviously I feel extremely happy, I was never that good in the wind.

"I definitely didn’t think I’d shot well enough to lead."

Colombian Sara López and Turkish world number one Yeşim Bostan, who matched Mlinarić's total but fell short on the 10-count tie-breaker rule, were among the other qualifiers.

In the men's compound competition, Dutch star Mike Schloesser earned top billing with a score of 713 points.

The world number one defied the difficult conditions to record the best total of the qualification session.

"I was shooting so good today, if the conditions were just a little bit better I would have broken the world record - or at least been close to it," he said.

Denmark's Stephan Hansen will be the second seed.

Mete Gazoz was also in good form in his home event as he led the way in men's recurve qualification.

The Turkish archer claimed 687 points to edge Italian Mauro Nespoli, who pushed Gazoz all the way before finishing in second place.

The competition is due to continue tomorrow.
