James Lutz of the United States narrowly defeated compatriot Kris Schaff in the men's compound final at the Archery World Cup event in Turkey.

He triumphed 150-149 at Antalya Archery Field to consign World Cup defending champion Schaff to a silver medal. 

Mike Schloesser of the Netherlands finished with a bronze medal after beating Colombia's Daniel Munoz 150-147.

Gold also went to the US in the women's team compound after Cassidy Cox, Paige Pearce and Alexis Ruiz recorded a 229-226 victory against Russia. 

Great Britain triumphed over India in the bronze medal match.

Ruiz's success did not continue into her women's compound final against Danelle Wentzel, however.

The South African won by three points, the score finishing at 144-141.

“It’s a great feeling," Wentzel said.

"I’m really happy with how I performed in this tournament. 

"Everything was consistent. 

"I shot consistently and performed well.”

Denmark's Stephan Hansen, Martin Damsbo and Mads Knudsen were the victors in the men's team compound, defeating Turkey 232-230.

India took bronze after easing past Russia 235-230.

The competition continues tomorrow.
