Favourites to claim the title on Sunday, the Americans picked up where they left off against Canada yesterday to record a 12-7 victory against Russia.

Jordan Raney led the scoring with three goals as Maddie Musselman bagged two more goals to increase to eight her tally for the tournament.

The US built a 7-3 lead before halftime and despite the Russians growing into the match in the third period, the US had done enough and eased into the quarter-finals.

In Group B's other match, hosts Hungary recorded their first win of the Super Final as they defeated Canada 16-14 at Duca Arena.

Canada scored eight goals in the second period to take a 10-8 lead.

Buoyed by their significant support, though, Hungary clawed their way back and went into the final quarter level at 13-13.

And the home side held their nerve to secure victory, allowing them to move into third, with the Canadians finishing bottom.

Italy secured their place at the top of Group A by defeating China.

In their first appearance in the World League for three years, the Italians won their opening matches against Australia and the Netherlands.

They led 5-3 at halftime and never relinquished their lead as they ran out 10-7 winners.

The Netherlands finished second after edging out Australia 8-7.

The quarter-finals, which start tomorrow, will see the US take on China while Italy lock horns with Canada.

Hungary will square off with the Netherlands and Australia face Russia.

The winner of the Super Final on Sunday will claim a place at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
