Japan won the women's team foil competition on the last day of the Asian Fencing Championships to end their home event in Chiba with a gold medal.

The trio of Yuka Ueno, Sera Azuma and Sumire Tsuji defeated South Korea's Song Oh Chae, Hee Sook Jeon and Seo In Hong 45-29 in the final.

For Ueno it was a form of revenge after she was beaten in the final of the individual event by Jeon, the world number eight, at the Chiba Port Arena.

Azuma, ranked 12th in the world, also won a second medal as she added to her individual bronze.

In the semi finals, Japan beat China's Peilin Wu, Xingxin Huo and Yue Shi 30-23.

The Koreans defeated Hong Kong's Kimberley Vanessa Cheung, Yan Wai Liu and Hiu Wai Valerie Cheung 34-33.

In the bronze medal contest, China prevailed 44-30.

The men's team épée event also took place on the final day today with China grabbing gold.

Their team of Gaofeng Shi, Zijie Wang and Minghao Lan condemned South Korea to another silver by beating Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist Sanyoung Park, Jongkwan Na and Youngjeon Kweon 45-41.

No Chinese or Korean fencers made the individual podium, with world number seven Park languishing in a tie for ninth, but both nations demonstrated the best strength in depth today.

The last four saw China defeat Japan's solo gold medallist Masaru Yamada, Kazuyasu Minobe and world number six Koki Kano 45-41.

South Korea pipped Kazakhstan's Elmir Alimzhanov, Vadim Sharlaimov and Ruslan Kurbanov 44-43 as they made the final.

Japan eased home in the bronze medal bout, 45-23.
