Japan qualified all four fighters for the kata finals at the Karate 1-Series A event in Montreal on a typical day of dominance for the country.

The men's kata showpiece at the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard will see Kazamasu Moto square off against compatriot Kakeru Nishiyama.

In the women's kata final, Maho Ono and Hikaru Ono are the athletes who will meet for gold.

Japanese karatekas also reached the finals of three of the five kumite divisions contested today in the Canadian city.

Kayo Someya will collide with Silvia Semeraro of Italy for the women's under-68 kilograms title, with Sago Naoto the Japanese hope in the men's under-60kg final against Kazakhstan's Darkhan Assadilov.

World champion Angelo Crescenzo of Italy was knocked out of the men's under-60kg in the third round but still has a chance of bronze after coming through the repechage.

In the men's under-67kg Yugo Kozaki reached the final for Japan and will lock horns with Burak Uygur of Turkey.

Uygur was one of two Turkish fighters to make gold medal bouts today as Erman Eltemur booked a battle for men's under-75kg gold with American Scott Thomas.

Eltemur knocked out Iran's reigning world champion Bahman Asgari Ghoncheh in the semi-finals who must now battle for bronze.

The women's over-68kg final will pit Italy's Clio Ferracuit against Germany's Johanna Kneer.

All of the finals and bronze medal bouts will take place tomorrow on the final day of competition.

The series allows athletes to secure points towards qualification for next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo, where karate will make its debut on the programme.
