Italy and hosts Spain are through to the penultimate round of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Series Finals event in Valencia after beating Belarus and Wales respectively today.

Goals from Lara Oviedo, Sofia Cesanelli, Eugenia Bianchi and Elisabetta Pacella secured a 4-1 victory for the Italians at the Spanish city's Estadio Betero.

They are now set to go onto face Pool A winners Canada in the last four on Wednesday (June 26).

The other semi-final will pit Pool B table toppers South Africa against Spain, who defeated Wales courtesy of Lucía Jiménez's ninth-minute field goal.

Belarus, whose goalscorer today was Elena Sazhina, are due to meet Wales in the fifth-place play-off tomorrow.

It will be preceded by the seventh-place play-off between Namibia and Thailand.

The final and third-place play-off are scheduled for Thursday (June 27).

Open to all countries not in the FIH Pro League, the FIH Series gives developing hockey-playing nations the opportunity to test themselves against some of the world’s best and to qualify for next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.
