Home favourite Suthat Bunchit was among the fighters who booked their place in the finals of the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur World Championships on day five of competition in Bangkok.

Bunchit beat Ukraine’s Vasyl Sorokin 29-28 in the semi-finals of the men’s elite A 81 kilograms event at the Sports Authority of Thailand venue.

It sets up a gold medal match with Belarus' Mikita Shostak, who defeated Russia’s Surik Magakian 30-28 in the other last-four encounter.

The final is scheduled to take place on Sunday (July 28).

Another senior Thai athlete securing his place in a final today was Kittiphop Mueangprom after he overcame Ukraine’s Igor Liubchenko 29-28 in the penultimate round of the men’s elite A 63.5kg category.

Standing between him and glory is Russia’s Abdulmalik Mugidinov, a 30-27 victor over Afghanistan’s Mohammad Yousuf Jahangir.

Among the other finals decided today was in the men's elite A 75kg division, with world champion Jimmy Vienot of France and Ukraine's Volodymyr Baryshev both advancing, at the expense of Spain's Nayanesh Parikh Bumba and Lebanon's Youssef Abboud, respectively.
