Paul, Philip and teammate Keron Bramble had triumphed in the men's team sprint earlier on in the competition here, with the trio claiming their country's first gold medal of Lima 2019.

This time, Paul and Philip were pitted up against eachother in the individual sprint final at the velodrome at VIDENA Sports Complex. 

Paul was the victor, winning both races in 10.645secs and 10.936. 

“I’m lost for words right now," he said.

“It’s an advantage racing a team-mate, but at the same time it’s not so easy, but it means a lot for me to share this medal with my team-mates.”

Kevin Quintero Chavarro of Colombia received the bronze medal, recording times of 10.466 and 10.556 against Hersony Canelon Vera of Venezuela. 

The remaining two track cycling  gold medals went to the United States. 

They topped the podium in the men's team pursuit, recording the winning time of 4:00.772, finishing quite a distance ahead of Colombia in 4:05.098.

Chile completed the podium.

Jennifer Valente then triumphed in the women's omnium.

She scored 82 points to do so, surpassing Cuba's Arlenis Sierra Canadilla and Lizbeth Salazar Vasquez, both on 56.

There was more success for the US at Lima's Lawn Tennis Club, with Usue Arconada and Caroline Dolehide crowned women’s doubles tennis champions.

The duo sealed a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Veronica Cepede-Royg and Montserrat Gonzalaz of Paraguay to claim the gold medal, with Brazil's Alexa Guarachi and Daniela Seguel completing the podium.

Ecuador’s Gonzalo Escobar and Roberto Quiroz became the men’s doubles champions following a close encounter with Argentina’s Guido Andreozzi and Facundo Bagnis.

The Ecuadorian pair won the opening set 6-4, only for their opponents to win the second 6-3.

It forced a deciding tie-break, with Escobar and Quiroz emerging as 10-8 winners to take the title.

The bronze medal went to home favourites Sergio Galdos and Juan Pablo Varillas. 

Chile’s Alexa Guarachi and Nicolas Jarry were the gold medallists in the mixed doubles, beating Bolivia’s Noelia and Federico Zeballos 6-1, 6-3.

There was another bronze medal for Peru, with Anastasia Iamachkine and Galdos finishing third. 

Mexico, were the victors in the rhymthic gymnastics groups all around competition, which consisted of routines in the ball and the clubs and hoops disciplines.

They scored 48.375 points across the events to secure the gold, with silver earned by the US team on 45.975.

Bronze went to Brazil on 43.350. 

American Evita Griskenas topped the women’s rhythmic gymnastics all-around event on 75.825, with her team-mate Camilla Feeley coming second on 70.725.

Brazil again took the bronze medal, with Natalia Gaudio finishing third on 67.150.
